Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
217 PM MDT Thu Jul 28 2016

...Dry and windy conditions expected Sunday with frontal passage...

.DISCUSSION...

Idaho: A slight warming and drying trend will continue for
north central Idaho through Saturday. Modest thermal belts should
develop overnight as mid-slopes and ridges remain warm. Winds are
expected to be light until Saturday afternoon, when an increasing
westerly pressure gradient and approaching trough will cause
breezy conditions. By Sunday, the gradient will tighten further as
the low moves east through southern Canada. Winds in the 20 mph
range with gusts in the 30s are expected. These winds combined
with RHs in the teens will be supportive of fire growth. Wetting
rain looks unlikely any time in the upcoming week.

Montana: Isolated thunderstorms are expected along the Divide
today, but most should stay east of the Divide. A slight warming
and drying trend will continue for western Montana through
Saturday. Modest thermal belts should develop overnight as mid-
slopes and ridges remain warm. Winds are expected to be light
until Saturday afternoon, when an increasing westerly pressure
gradient and approaching trough will cause breezy conditions. By
Sunday, the gradient will tighten further as the low moves east
through southern Canada. Winds in the 30 mph range with gusts in
the 40s are expected, especially in southwest Montana, including
the Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF. These winds combined with RHs in the
teens will be supportive of fire growth. Wetting rain looks
unlikely any time in the upcoming week.
