FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
230 PM PDT TUE SEP 23 2014

...SIGNIFICANT WETTING RAIN EVENT TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY...
...REMAINING UNSETTLED THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A MUCH STRONGER SYSTEM WILL MOVE IN LATE
TONIGHT... THEN STALL NEAR THE CASCADES WEDNESDAY. SUBSTANTIAL
WETTING RAIN IS EXPECTED OVER THE FORECAST AREA. AN UNSETTLED
PATTERN RESIDES OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THURSDAY THROUGH THE
WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...A SIGNIFICANT WETTING RAIN EVENT WILL IMPACT THE AREA
TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY. STEADIER RAIN SHOULD BEGIN ALONG THE
COAST EARLY THIS EVENING THEN SPREAD INLAND OVERNIGHT. HOWEVER...THE
LANE COUNTY CASCADES MAY NOT SEE MUCH PRECIPITATION UNTIL DAWN
WEDNESDAY. WIDESPREAD WETTING RAIN IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS BY EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON MAY REACH
0.75 INCHES TO 1.50 INCHES IN THE COAST RANGE...WILLAPA HILLS AND
CASCADE FOOTHILLS. THE FRONT STALLS OVER THE CASCADES WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON THEN GRADUALLY FALLS APART WEDNESDAY NIGHT. AN UPPER
TROUGH SETTLING IN THE GULF OF ALASKA THURSDAY WILL MAINTAIN AN
UNSETTLED REGIME. THE MAIN PART OF THE UPPER TROUGH REFORMS INTO A
CLOSED LOW OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FRIDAY. THIS LOW SLOWLY WORKS
ITS WAY EAST OVER THE WEEKEND. NORTHERN ZONES SHOULD HAVE A
REASONABLY DRY WEEKEND. HOWEVER...IT LOOKS LIKE COOLER AND WETTER
CONDITIONS RETURN EARLY NEXT WEEK.
