Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
215 PM PDT Fri Oct 20 2017

...SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL THIS WEEKEND...
...DRY PATTERN RETURNS EARLY NEXT WEEK...
...940 AM BRIEFINGS MON-WED-FRI...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Another very wet system is expected over the
weekend, which will likely bring significant rainfall to many areas,
especially elevated terrain. In addition, very windy conditions will
occur along the coast and over higher terrain. A drying trend is
expected the first part of next week.

.DISCUSSION...A cooler but more unstable air mass over the region
today, will gradually shift out of the area tonight. Snow levels
will remain 3500 to 4000 feet tonight, but will climb rapidly
Saturday. Another warm-frontal system spreads into the region
Saturday, with another round of heavy rain possible for many areas,
especially elevated terrain. This system lingers over the region
Sunday. The forecast weekend rainfall amounts will increase the
potential for issues on recent burn scars, especially the Eagle
Creek Fire burn area. Strong wind can also be expected Saturday
afternoon and evening, primarily along the coast and over higher
terrain. A return to drier conditions looks to occur early next
week, with light offshore low-level flow Monday night and Tuesday. A
weak system moves across the area Tuesday night and Wednesday,
followed by a drier, but cooler, north flow aloft late next week.
