NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA
300 PM PDT WED AUG 12 2015

ON THURSDAY EVENING AUGUST 6TH...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM MOVED FROM
DESERT SHORES TO MECCA AND DISSIPATED NEAR THERMAL, CALIFORNIA.
PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS ARE EXCEEDING 10 MILLION. THIS
INCLUDES A STRETCH OF 2 TO 3 MILES OF DOWNED OR SNAPPED STEEL AND
WOOD UTILITY POLES. A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
CONFIRMED THE DAMAGE ON AN AUGUST 7TH STORM SURVEY. ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION INCLUDING A FLIPPED VEHICLE AND DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES...
AS WELL AS A REPORT OF GOLF BALL SIZED HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
EYEWITNESS REPORTS CONSISTED OF A FUNNEL SHAPE CLOUD AND TORNADO
AFTER THE HAIL AND BEFORE BRIEF HEAVY RAIN.

BASED ON THE CURRENT INFORMATION THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS
DETERMINED IN ADDITION TO STRAIGHT LINE WINDS THERE WAS A TORNADO
BETWEEN AVENUE 64 AND 66 AND FILLMORE AND PIERCE STREETS. THE
INITIAL DAMAGE INDICATES ENHANCED FUJITA ONE (EF1). PEAK WIND SPEEDS
WOULD HAVE BEEN 90 TO 105 MPH. WHEN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS
RECEIVED THIS REPORT MAY BE UPDATED.
