Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
358 AM CDT Tue Apr 23 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Today will be a bit cooler then yesterday with high temperatures
only warming up to the upper 50s to mid 60s across the area.
Northwest winds will gust up to 30-40 mph during the morning hours
but will slowly be waning to 25-35 mph for the afternoon hours. Dew
points will slightly moisten into the 30s this afternoon, allowing
for the lowest relative humidity values to fall down to bout 35%
this afternoon. With humidity above criteria along with greening
fuels, only moderate fire danger is expected.

High pressure takes control on Wednesday, turning winds to out of
the south/southeast and remaining light. Dew points will remain in
the 30s while high temperatures warm a bit more into the 60s.
Relative humidity values will only fall down to the 30s. The higher
humidity and light winds will result in low fire danger for the day.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or
lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic
material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential
for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely
monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.
