...MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND ILLINOIS RIVER ICE STATEMENT...

                ICE COVER CONDITIONS AS OF 2/14/2017

MISSISSIPPI RIVER

LOCK AND DAM 1 THROUGH LD4 REPORTED 30 TO 50 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE WITH
ICE 1 TO 4 INCHES THICK.  LD5 THROUGH LD13 REPORTED 30 TO 100 PERCENT
COVERAGE WITH ICE 3 TO 8 INCHES THICK.  VERY LITTLE ICE WAS REPORTED
DOWNSTREAM OF LD13.

THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS PLANS TO BEGIN TAKING THE ANNUAL LAKE PEPIN ICE
MEASUREMENTS TOMORROW (FEBRUARY 15).

VIIRS SATELLITE IMAGERY ON FEBRUARY 12 AND 13 SHOWED APPROXIMATELY
30 TO 100 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE FROM THE TWIN CITIES TO ROUGHLY LD13,
AND MOSTLY OPEN WATER DOWNSTREAM OF THERE.

WATER TEMPERATURES WERE 31 TO 33 DEGREES DOWNSTREAM TO LD13, 34 TO 37
DEGREES FROM LD14 TO LD22, AND 41 TO 42 DEGREES AT LD24 TO LD27.

ILLINOIS RIVER SYSTEM (CHICAGO/ILLINOIS R)

NO ICE WAS REPORTED TODAY ON THE ILLINOIS OR ITS TRIBUTARIES.  VIIRS
SATELLITE IMAGERY FROM THE PAST FEW DAYS ALSO INDICATED OPEN WATER
CONDITIONS.

WATER TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM 35 TO 43 DEGREES.

ICE FACTORS AS OF 2/14/2017:

OUTLOOK FOR NEXT 7 DAYS:

AIR TEMPERATURES WILL COOL DOWN A LITTLE FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS AND
THEN WARM TO MUCH ABOVE NORMAL AGAIN LATER THIS WEEK THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

IN THE NORTH...HIGHS WILL BE IN THE 30S AND 40S TODAY, 30S TOMORROW,
40S ON THURSDAY, AND 50S ON FRIDAY THROUGH NEXT MONDAY.  LOWS WILL BE IN
THE TEENS AND 20S TONIGHT, 20S TOMORROW NIGHT, 20S AND 30S ON THURSDAY
NIGHT, 30S ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS, AND IN THE 40S ON SUNDAY
NIGTHT.

IN THE SOUTH...HIGHS WILL BE IN THE 40S AND 50S TODAY, 30S AND 40S
TOMORROW, 50S ON THURSDAY, AND 50S AND 60S ON FRIDAY THROUGH NEXT
MONDAY.  LOWS WILL BE IN THE 20S TONIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT, 30S ON
THURSDAY NIGHT, 40S ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS, AND 40S AND 50S ON
SUNDAY NIGHT.

IN OUR REGION...LOW TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 31 DEGREES AT
ST CLOUD, 31 DEGREES IN THE TWIN CITIES, 30 DEGREES IN THE QUAD
CITIES, 35 DEGREES AT PEORIA, AND 42 DEGREES AT ST LOUIS.

BASED ON THESE FACTORS...ICE WILL CONTINUE DECAYING AND BREAKING
UP THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

THE NEXT RIVER ICE STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED ON TUESDAY
FEBRUARY 21, 2017.
