Flood Statement

320 AM CDT THU AUG 25 2016

.Heavy rain Tuesday night into Wednesday has led to significant
flooding on the Turkey and Upper Iowa Rivers. Minor flooding is
occurring along portions of the Kickapoo River.

River forecasts take into account both observed and forecast
precipitation.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...


Do not drive cars into flooded areas. Remember, it only takes two
feet of water to float most automobiles, including sport utility
vehicles. Turn Around, Don`t Drown!

  The Cedar River At Charles City.
* until Friday morning...Or until the warning is cancelled.
* At  2:30 AM Thursday the stage was 12.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 13.4 feet this
  morning. The river will fall below flood stage today.
* Impact...At 12.0 feet...Barricading of streets begins, and the
  intersection of Riverside and Illinois Streets may be flooded.

* At  2:45 AM Thursday the stage was 12.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage today.
* Impact...At 12.5 feet...Water reaches the bottom support beams of
  the bridge.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 25.0 feet by this
  evening. The river will fall below flood stage Saturday morning.

* At  2:15 AM Thursday the stage was 15.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage this morning and continue to
  rise to near 26.0 feet by this evening. The river will fall below
  flood stage by Saturday morning.
* Impact...At 26.0 feet...The earthen levee at Elkport is threatened,
  just upstream of Garber.

* Forecast...The river will continue to fall...Dropping below flood
  stage by Friday evening.
