SUBJECT: New Forecast Service For the Turkey River at Spillville
         in Winneshiek County in Northeast Iowa

Beginning Friday January 27, 2017, NOAA`s National Weather Service /NWS/
Office in La Crosse, WI will commence the provision of new River
Forecast Service for the Turkey River at Spillville, Iowa. These
forecasts will be provided as needed when flooding becomes a concern.

The new service at this location is a direct result of active
coordination over the past several years with County and Local
officials in Spillville, Fort Atkinson, and Winneshiek County. The
new forecast service will not only provide flooding forecasts for
the community of Spillville and surrounding areas, but it will also
assist recreational interests in that area.

As of  Friday January 27th, NWS La Crosse will begin to issue hydrologic
products as necessary that may include specific river forecasts. The
hydrologic products are listed in the following table:

The NWS defines Flood Stage as the river level at which impacts to
life and/or property begin.

At Spillville, the Flood Stage has been set at 9 feet. The Moderate
flood level has been established at 11 feet, with Major flooding
beginning at 13 feet. Forecasts will be issued when water levels
are expected to exceed 7 feet, and Flood Warnings will be issued
when water levels are expected to reach or exceed the Flood Stage
level of 9 feet.

The Record Crest at this location was seen just this past August.

The NWS Location Identifier /NWSLI/ is SPLI4.
