...DISCUSSION...

MUCH OF SEPTEMBER FEATURED A DRIER...NORTHWEST FLOW REGIME WHICH
BROUGHT BOUTS OF AUTUMN AIR TO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY.
THERE WERE TWO NOTABLE PERIODS DURING THE MONTH...A SIGNIFICANT COLD
SNAP DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH THAT SENT TEMPERATURES 10 TO 20
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. NEAR THE END OF THE MONTH...A STRONG RIDGE OF
HIGH PRESSURE BROUGHT SEVERAL DAYS OF VERY WARM AND ALMOST SUMMER
LIKE WEATHER TO THE REGION. REGULAR FREQUENCY OF WEATHER SYSTEMS
KEPT PRECIPITATION TOTALS FOR THE MONTH JUST SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL.
