...Temperatures at Rochester, Minnesota were above normal and
precipitation was well above normal during the month of September...

The average temperature was 64.4 degrees. This was 3.5 degrees above
normal. The average high temperature was 73.9 degrees and the
average low temperature was 54.9 degrees. The highest temperature
for the month was 83 degrees which occurred on the 5th and 18th. The
coldest temperature was 45 degrees which occurred on the 27th.

Rochester received 9.10 inches of precipitation during the month.
This was 5.65 inches above normal. The greatest 24-hour
precipitation total was 3.60 inches which occurred on the 21st.


A daily record for precipitation was set on September 21. A total of
3.60 inches of rain fell on the 21st. This shattered the old record
of 1.38 inches set back in 1986.


It was a warm and very wet month of September for Rochester. The
lowest observed temperature for the entire month was 45 degrees.
This is the highest minimum temperature ever recorded for the month
of September at Rochester. The daily high temperature reached at
least 65 degrees every day of the month. The only other year this
occurred was 1940. The monthly average temperature of 64.4 degrees
is tied for the 7th highest average temperature for the month of
September on record. The average low temperature of 54.9 degrees is
the fourth highest average low temperature observed for the month of

Rainfall was well above normal for September, with 9.10 inches of
rain falling. This was the third wettest September on record. The
9.10 inches of rain that fell also makes September, 2016 the
thirteenth highest precipitation total for any month ever recorded
at Rochester. There were six days with precipitation over half an
inch, which is triple the monthly normal of 1.9 days. A record-
setting rainfall occurred on September 21st and 22nd that produced
widespread flooding across the region. 4.31 inches of rain fell on
those two days combined, including a single day record of 3.60
inches on the 21st. The 3.60 inches that fell on the 21st is also
the fourth highest total ever for a single day in the month of

The average temperature for the month of October is 48.4 degrees.
The average high temperature is 58.4 degrees and the average low
temperature is 38.4 degrees. The normal high temperatures starts off
at 65 degrees on the 1st and falls to 51 degrees on the 31st. The
normal low starts at 44 degrees and drops off to 34 degrees by the
end of the month. The highest temperature ever recorded during the
month of October was 93 degrees which occurred on the 3rd in 1997.
The lowest temperature ever recorded during the month of October was
6 degrees below zero, which occurred on the 25th in 1887.

The average precipitation in October is 2.24 inches. The average
snowfall is eight tenths of an inch. The wettest October occurred
in 1911 when 9.11 inches of precipitation fell at the Rochester
International Airport. The driest October on record was back in 1952
with only one hundredth of an inch. The highest snowfall total for
the month of October was 7.9 inches in 2009.
