URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LA CROSSE WI
136 PM CST MON JAN 16 2017

...ICY TRAVEL FOR MOST TODAY INTO TUESDAY...

.ROAD CONDITIONS HAVE IMPROVED ACROSS AREAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 90 AS TEMPERATURES HAVE WARMED TO NEAR OR JUST ABOVE
32F EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. HOWEVER MANY SLIPPERY SPOTS AND
STRETCHES REMAIN...ESPECIALLY ON UNTREATED ROADS. SINCE NOON...THE
NEXT ROUND OF PRECIPITATION HAS SPREAD RATHER QUICKLY NORTH ACROSS
THE AREA...WITH THE NORTHERN EDGE NOW NEAR A ZUMBRO FALLS
MINNESOTA TO BLACK RIVER FALLS AND WISCONSIN RAPIDS LINE.
TEMPERATURES IN THESE AREAS REMAINED AROUND 30F...WITH ICING AND
GLAZING DEVELOPING ON UNTREATED ROADS.

MUCH OF THE PRECIPITATION REMAINS FREEZING RAIN...WITH SOME RAIN
NOW ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHEAST IOWA AND FAR SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN
WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE SNEAKING ABOVE 32F. EVEN SO...SOME ICING WILL
CONTINUE TO OCCUR IN THESE AREAS WHERE ROADS REMAIN COLD...
ESPECIALLY ONCE THE SUN STARTS TO SET.

THE BULK OF THE PRECIPITATION WILL FALL DURING THE REST OF THIS
AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. IF NOT ALREADY ICY...ROADS WILL
QUICKLY GO FROM SLIPPERY TO HAZARDOUS...ESPECIALLY NEAR AND NORTH
OF INTERSTATE 90 WHERE TEMPERATURES MAY STAY BELOW 32F INTO THIS
EVENING.

PLAN AHEAD NOW FOR THESE POOR TRAVEL CONDITIONS. AVOID TRAVEL IF
YOU CAN...ESPECIALLY THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.
