Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains
National Weather Service Hastings NE
903 PM CDT Wed May 8 2024

Keeping our focus on the shorter-term forecast over these next three
days...the overall theme is that most areas within our central/south
central Nebraska and north central Kansas coverage area will remain
dry the vast majority of the time. That being said...do not be
caught off guard by at least brief...spotty rain showers and perhaps
a few weak thunderstorms on Thursday daytime through around
sunset...particularly in our Nebraska coverage area...with another
chance for isolated to perhaps scattered thunderstorms then arriving
Saturday evening and overnight. However...the good news is that
unlike was the case with several recent thunderstorm chances...any
storms Thursday or Saturday night should NOT be severe. In between
these two main chances for possible precipitation...Friday is very
likely a dry day area-wide. Otherwise...temperatures these next
three days will be very typical of early to mid-May...with highs
across our 30-county coverage area mainly in the 60s or 70s
Thursday...and mainly 70s Friday and Saturday...with a few spots
possibly hitting 80 Saturday. Overnight lows each of these next
three nights will hold up well into the 40s...as it is starting to
look increasingly-unlikely that we will see any further threat of
frost or freezing temperatures again this spring...although it is
still a touch soon to guarantee that. Wind-wise...both Thursday and
Friday will be typically-breezy with gusts at least 20 to 25 MPH out
of the north or northwest...with Saturdays winds currently looking a
little big lighter.
