...TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION AT LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN WERE ABOVE
NORMAL DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 74.2 DEGREES. THIS WAS 2.8 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 83.7 DEGREES AND THE
AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 64.8 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 92 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 3RD, 4TH, AND
10TH. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 56 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE
22ND.

LA CROSSE RECEIVED 6.36 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION DURING THE MONTH.
THIS WAS 2.07 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24-HOUR
PRECIPITATION TOTAL WAS 1.41 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 19TH.

A DAILY RECORD FOR THE WARMEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS SET ON AUGUST
11TH. THE LOW TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS 76 DEGREES. THIS BROKE THE
PREVIOUS RECORD OF 73 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1874 AND 1995.

...DISCUSSION...

TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL AT LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN DURING THE
MONTH OF AUGUST. THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH WAS WARMER THAN THE
SECOND HALF. IN FACT, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED AT LEAST 82
DEGREES EVERY DAY FROM THE 1ST THROUGH THE 18TH. FROM THE 19TH
THROUGH THE 31ST, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE DID NOT EXCEED 85 DEGREES.
THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF AUGUST WERE ESPECIALLY WARM. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE RECORDED DURING THE MONTH WAS 92 DEGREES ON THE 3RD,
4TH, AND 10TH. A DAILY RECORD FOR THE WARMEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE
WAS ALSO SET ON THE 11TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED THAT DAY
WAS 76 DEGREES.

WHILE THERE WERE SOME DRIER PERIODS, LA CROSSE RECEIVED ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST. THE ONLY DAY WITH
PRECIPITATION THROUGH THE FIRST 10 DAYS OF THE MONTH WAS THE 4TH.
HOWEVER, 1.34 INCHES OF RAIN FELL THAT DAY FROM THUNDERSTORMS THAT
ALSO CAUSED SOME WIND DAMAGE IN THE GREATER LA CROSSE AREA. THERE
WERE SIX DAYS IN AUGUST WHEN LA CROSSE RECEIVED AT LEAST HALF AN
INCH OF RAIN, WHICH IS DOUBLE THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF THREE DAYS. THE
GREATEST DAILY TOTAL WAS 1.41 INCHES, WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 19TH.
