TEMPERATURES...WARMEST EVER RECORDED

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 69.3 DEGREES...WHICH WAS
6.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE 1981-2010 NORMAL OF 62.8 DEGREES. THIS RANKS
IT AS THE WARMEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD.  THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 68.8
DEGREES IN 1998.  THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 79.3 DEGREES
WHICH WAS 6.1 DEGREES WARMER THAN THE 1981-2010 NORMAL OF 73.2
DEGREES. THIS TIED 1891 FOR THE 5TH WARMEST AVERAGE.  THE WARMEST
AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 81.4 DEGREES IN 1998.  THE AVERAGE LOW
TEMPERATURE WAS 59.3 DEGREES WHICH WAS 6.9 DEGREES WARMER THAN THE
1981-2010 NORMAL OF 52.4 DEGREES. THIS TIED 1894 FOR THE WARMEST LOW
TEMPERATURE AVERAGE.

THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 92 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 6TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE IN SEPTEMBER WAS 38
DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 30TH.

THERE WERE TWO 90-DEGREE TEMPERATURES.  NORMALLY...THERE IS JUST ONE.

PRECIPITATION...

LA CROSSE RECEIVED 2.73 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION DURING THE MONTH
WHICH WAS 0.83 INCHES BELOW THE 1981-2010 NORMAL OF 3.56 INCHES. THE
GREATEST 24-HOUR AMOUNT WAS 1.15 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION THAT FELL
ON THE 8TH.

WAS THIS WARM IN A SEPTEMBER WAS ON SEPTEMBER 2 1937.

...DISCUSSION...

A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WAS LOCATED ACROSS THE REGION FOR MUCH OF
THE MONTH. THIS RESULTED IN MAINLY SOUTHERLY WINDS THROUGHOUT MUCH
OF THE MONTH. THIS RESULTED IN SEVERAL WELL ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURE
STREAKS DURING THE MONTH.  TEMPERATURES AVERAGED 10 TO 17 DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL FROM THE 1ST THROUGH 7TH...15TH THROUGH 17TH...AND 23RD
THROUGH THE 28TH. THERE WERE ONLY 5 DAYS WITH BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES /FROM THE 11TH THROUGH THE 13TH AND ON THE 29TH AND
30TH/.
