...TEMPERATURES AT LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN WERE WELL ABOVE NORMAL AND
PRECIPITATION WAS NEAR NORMAL DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 56.0 DEGREES. THIS WAS 5.8 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 65.8 DEGREES AND THE
AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 46.3 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 77 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 4TH, 11TH, AND
17TH. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 34 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE
21ST.

LA CROSSE RECEIVED 2.23 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION DURING THE MONTH.
THIS WAS 0.06 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24-HOUR
PRECIPITATION TOTAL WAS 1.71 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED FROM THE 25TH TO
THE 26TH. NO SNOW FELL DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER.

A DAILY RECORD FOR THE WARMEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS SET ON
OCTOBER 17. THE LOW TEMPERATURE ONLY FELL TO 65 DEGREES ON THE 17TH.
THIS BROKE THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 64 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1994.

A DAILY RECORD FOR PRECIPITATION WAS SET ON OCTOBER 26. A TOTAL OF
1.29 INCHES OF RAIN FELL ON THE 26TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF
0.62 INCHES SET BACK IN 1970.

...DISCUSSION...

IT WAS A VERY WARM MONTH OF OCTOBER AT LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN. THE
TEMPERATURE NEVER FELL BELOW 32 DEGREES FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH. THIS
IS ONLY THE ELEVENTH TIME SINCE OBSERVATIONS BEGAN IN 1872 THAT THE
TEMPERATURE HAS STAYED ABOVE FREEZING FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF
OCTOBER. ON AVERAGE, THERE ARE 6 DAYS IN OCTOBER WITH BELOW FREEZING
TEMPERATURES. THERE WERE 11 DAYS IN OCTOBER WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE
OF 70 DEGREES OR GREATER. THIS IS NEARLY DOUBLE THE AVERAGE OF 6
DAYS. THE AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE, AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE,
AND AVERAGE OVERALL TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER WERE NEARLY
6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

PRECIPITATION WAS NEAR NORMAL FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. HOWEVER,
1.71 OF THE 2.23 INCHES THAT FELL DURING THE MONTH OCCURRED WITHIN A
24-HOUR PERIOD ON THE 25TH AND 26TH. 1.29 INCHES FELL ON THE 26TH,
WHICH SET A DAILY RAINFALL RECORD. MUCH OF THE REST OF THE MONTH WAS
DRY. THE DRIEST STRETCH WAS FROM THE 13TH THROUGH THE 24TH WHEN ONLY
THREE HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED. NO SNOW
FELL DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL.
