SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 15.6 DEGREES WHICH WAS 6.0
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND RANKS AS THE 19TH COLDEST ON RECORD. THE
AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 23.9 DEGREES...WHILE THE AVERAGE LOW
WAS 7.3 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE IN DECEMBER WAS 42 DEGREES
WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 28TH... WHILE THE LOWEST READING FOR THE MONTH
WAS 17 DEGREES BELOW ZERO WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 30TH.

A TOTAL OF 1.52 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL DURING THE MONTH OF
DECEMBER...WHICH WAS 0.16 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24-HOUR
PRECIPITATION TOTAL WAS 0.39 INCHES WHICH FELL FROM THE 2ND TO THE
3RD.

THERE WAS 12.7 INCHES OF SNOW RECORDED FOR THE MONTH...WHICH WAS 1.2
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24 HOUR SNOWFALL OF 3.5 INCHES
FELL FROM THE 24TH TO THE 25TH.

THE LOW TEMPERATURE ON DECEMBER 30TH WAS 17 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. THIS
TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1976.

*****DISCUSSION*****

THE MONTH STARTED OUT ON A MILD NOTE WITH HIGHS DURING THE FIRST 4
DAYS IN THE 30S AND LOWER 40S. THEN A TREND TOWARD A NORTHWEST FLOW
BROUGHT PERIODIC LIGHT SNOW TO BE FOLLOWED BY COLD HIGH PRESSURE.
THIS RESULTED IN 17 DAYS WITH BELOW NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURES...
WITH DEC 30TH RECORDING A 25 DEGREE DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL.  A TOTAL
OF 6.4 INCHES OF SNOW FELL FROM THE 22ND TO THE 25TH MAKING FOR A
WHITE CHRISTMAS INDEED.
