...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHING THE WATERS...

The areas affected include...

  Eastern Long Island Sound...

At 743 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable
of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These
thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Essex
Village to 7 nm northwest of Madison Reef, moving east at 50 knots.

Locations impacted include...
New London Harbor, Essex Village, Fishers Island, Westbrook Center,
Mouth of the Connecticut River, Fishers Island Sound, Madison Reef,
Long Sand Shoal, Stonington, and Niantic Bay.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until these storms pass.
