Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
259 PM MDT Wed Apr 17 2024

...Red Flag Warning in effect for portions of the area through 9
PM MDT this evening...

...Red Flag Warning in effect for portions of the area from Noon
to 7 PM MDT Thursday...

...A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for portions of the area
from Friday afternoon through Friday evening...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical fire weather conditions will continue over most of the
I-25 corridor, Fremont county and the San Luis valley through this
evening. Critical fire weather conditions are expected over the
San Luis valley on Thursday and again on Friday.

Later tonight, a strong cold front will move across the plains,
and this will bring much cooler weather to the plains on Thursday.
However, the San Luis Valley will remain in the warm and dry
airmass on Thursday, and critical fire weather conditions will
once again occur over the valley by Thursday afternoon. Similar
conditions will occur over the area on Friday, with the plains
remaining cool and the San Luis Valley remaining windy and dry,
and this will allow critical fire weather conditions to once again
occur over the valley floor. Cooler weather with less windy
conditions are expected for this weekend region-wide. Showers may
become widespread over the region on Saturday. Dry weather returns
Sunday.

Smoke dispersion is expected to be excellent across the mountains
and mountain valleys on Thursday, and poor to good across the
plains. Smoke dispersion is expected to be excellent across the
mountains and mountain valleys on Friday, and fair to very good
across the plains.
