...A WARM AND DRY START FOR THE BRISTOL BAY AREA...

THE KING SALMON AREA EXPERIENCED A VERY WARM JANUARY 2016.
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 32.4 DEGREES WAS A WHOPPING
16.2 DEGREES WARMER THAN THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE
OF 16.2 DEGREES. IT WAS THE FOURTH WARMEST JANUARY RECORDED
AT KING SALMON. THE AVERAGE DAILY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS
38.3 DEGREES WHILE THE DAILY MINIMUM WAS 26.5. THE HIGHEST
DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDED DURING THE MONTH WAS 45 DEGREES ON
THE 4TH AND THE 31ST. THE LOWEST DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDED
DURING THE MONTH WAS 10 ON THE 13TH 14TH AND THE 21ST.  TWO
NEW RECORDS WERE SET FOR DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE. 42 DEGREES
ON THE 2ND TIED THE PREVIOUS RECORD HIGH SET IN 1995. A HIGH
TEMPERATURE OF 45 DEGREES ON THE 4TH REPLACED THE PREVIOUS
RECORD OF 43 DEGREES HELD SINCE 1995.

A TOTAL OF ONLY 0.48 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS MEASURED
DURING THE MONTH AT THE KING SALMON NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
OFFICE. THIS IS 0.54 INCHES LOWER THAN THE NORMAL MONTHLY
AVERAGE OF 1.02 INCHES. THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF DAILY
PRECIPITATION WAS MEASURED ON THE 28TH WITH 0.17 INCHES . 16
DAYS OF THE MONTH RECEIVED A TRACE OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION.
JANUARY WAS THE 3RD DRIEST RECORDED SINCE CLIMATE RECORDS
STARTED IN 1917. 0.5 INCHES WAS RECORDED DURING JANUARY 1929
AND 0.0 WAS MEASURED IN 1930.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE MONTH WAS 12.7 MPH. THE
HIGHEST SUSTAINED WIND OF THE MONTH WAS RECORDED ON THE 5TH WITH
A SOUTH WIND TO 39 MPH. THE HIGHEST SINGLE GUST OF WIND WAS
MEASURED ON THE 1ST OF THE MONTH WITH A SOUTH WIND TO 49 MPH.

2ND TIES THE PREVIOUS RECORD SET IN 1995. 45 DEGREES ON THE 4TH
