AUGUST BEGAN WITH SOME WARM, HUMID WEATHER, WITH THE TEMPERATURE
REACHING 88 DEGREES ON THE 2ND, THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURE IN THE
ENTIRE MONTH. SOME COOLER WEATHER ARRIVED A FEW DAYS LATER, ALONG
WITH SOME RAINFALL. TEMPERATURES WERE WITHIN A FEW DEGREES ON EITHER
SIDE OF NORMAL FOR MOST OF THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST, WITH ONE NOTABLE
EXCEPTION. ON AUGUST 18, A FRONTAL SYSTEM BROUGHT MORE THAN AN INCH
OF RAINFALL AND THE HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS ONLY 63 DEGREES.
BY THE END OF AUGUST, A SHIFT TOWARD COOLER, DRIER WEATHER HAD
OCCURRED, WITH THE LAST 8 DAYS OF THE MONTH EXPERIENCING BELOW
NORMAL TEMPERATURES.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 67.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.8
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE COOLEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS IN 1964 WHEN
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 62.2 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS IN 1973
WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 72.9 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 2.67 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH WAS 0.64 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. ALMOST HALF OF THAT RAIN FELL IN ONE DAY WHEN 1.12 INCHES OF
RAIN FELL ON THE 18TH. THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS IN 2001 WHEN
ONLY 0.19 INCHES OF RAIN FELL. THE WETTEST WAS IN 1991 WHEN 9.08
INCHES WAS RECORDED.
