THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 35.5, WHICH IS 1.2 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. IT WAS THE COLDEST DECEMBER SINCE 2010, WHEN THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE WAS 32.4.

MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS 0.95, WHICH IS 2.42 INCHES (72 PERCENT)
BELOW NORMAL. THIS MAKES DECEMBER 2017 THE 8TH DRIEST ON RECORD. IT
WAS THE DRIEST DECEMBER SINCE 1985, WHEN 0.84 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION FELL.

MONTHLY SNOWFALL WAS 4.3 INCHES, WHICH IS 1.3 INCHES ABOVE THE 1981-
2010 CLIMATOLOGICAL NORMAL. IT WAS THE SNOWIEST DECEMBER SINCE 2009,
WHEN 20.1 INCHES FELL.

A DAILY RECORD SNOWFALL OF 2.8 INCHES WAS SET ON DECEMBER 9TH. THIS
BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 2.2 INCHES FROM 2005.

A DAILY RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 24 DEGREES WAS SET ON
DECEMBER 28TH. THIS TIED THE OLD RECORD OF 24 FROM 1993.

A DAILY RECORD LOW MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 10 DEGREES WAS SET ON
DECEMBER 28TH. THIS TIED THE OLD RECORD OF 10 FROM 1950.

CLIMATE RECORDS FOR THE BALTIMORE MD AREA HAVE BEEN KEPT AT
BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT SINCE
1950. ADDITIONAL TEMPERATURE RECORDS OBSERVED DOWNTOWN EXTEND BACK
TO JULY OF 1872. PRECIPITATION RECORDS EXTEND BACK TO JANUARY OF
1871. SNOWFALL RECORDS BEGAN IN MARCH OF 1892.
