WARM WEATHER FROM THE END OF JUNE SPILLED INTO THE FIRST WEEK OF
JULY. AN ISOLATED, HEAVY THUNDERSTORM ON JULY 1 BROUGHT WELL MORE
THAN ONE INCH OF RAINFALL. THE WARM WEATHER PATTERN BEGAN TO SHIFT
TO A COOLER, DAMP WEATHER PATTERN FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH.
THE TEMPERATURE DID NOT RISE OUT OF THE 60S FOR 4 STRAIGHT DAYS FROM
THE 7TH THROUGH THE 10TH. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 59 DEGREES ON JULY
9 WAS THE SECOND COLDEST JULY HIGH TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED IN THE
SHORT 21-YEAR HISTORY OF WEATHER OBSERVATIONS AT THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY. WARM WEATHER QUICKLY RETURNED, WITH
MUCH OF THE LAST HALF OF THE MONTH FEATURING ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AND OCCASIONAL THUNDERSTORMS. ON JULY 22 THE HIGH
TEMPERATURE SOARED TO 93 DEGREES, THE HOTTEST OF THE YEAR SO FAR.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 71.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.1
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST JULY WAS IN 2011 WITH AN AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 73.3 DEGREES. THE COOLEST WAS 2009 AT ONLY 65.8
DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 4.47 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH WAS 0.17 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST RAIN FELL ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH WHEN
1.42 INCHES WAS MEASURED IN A HEAVY THUNDERSTORM. THE WETTEST JULY
WAS IN 2009 WHEN 9.45 INCHES WAS MEASURED. THE DRIEST WAS 2003 WITH
ONLY 1.08 INCHES.
