JANUARY 2015 WILL LIKELY BE REMEMBERED AS BEING COLD AND SNOWY. IT
MARKED THE SECOND STRAIGHT JANUARY WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES,
INCLUDING 5 DAYS BELOW ZERO. THERE WERE ALSO SEVERAL ROUNDS OF SNOW,
ESPECIALLY TOWARD THE END OF THE MONTH WHEN A NEW STORM SYSTEM WOULD
BRING SNOW SEEMINGLY EVERY OTHER DAY. THE BIGGEST EVENT OF THE MONTH
WAS WITHOUT DOUBT THE BLIZZARD WHICH BROUGHT 23.8 INCHES OF SNOW TO
PORTLAND ON THE 27 AND 28. STRONG WINDS AND COLD TEMPERATURES
COMBINED TO MAKE CONDITIONS DOWNRIGHT BRUTAL.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 21.1 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.2
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. JANUARY 2015 BARELY EDGE OUT LAST YEAR AS THE
COLDEST JANUARY SINCE 2009. THE COLDEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS 1971
WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS ONLY 12.2 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS
2002 WITH AN AVERAGE OF 30.4 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 4.67 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL DURING THE MONTH. THIS
WAS 1.29 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE WETTEST JANUARY SINCE 1999.
MORE THAN HALF OF THE PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH FELL DURING THE
BLIZZARD WHICH BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW ON THE 27 AND 28 OF THE MONTH. THE
WETTEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS 1935 WHEN 12.29 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION FELL. THE DRIEST WAS 2004 WITH ONLY 0.28 INCHES.

40.7 INCHES OF SNOWFALL WAS MEASURED AT PORTLAND WHICH IS 21.5
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. IT WAS THE SNOWIEST JANUARY SINCE 1987 AND THE
8TH SNOWIEST ON RECORD. MORE THAN HALF OF THE TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR THE
MONTH FELL DURING THE BLIZZARD ON THE 27 AND 28. SNOW WAS OBSERVED
ON HALF OF THE DAYS IN THE MONTH (16) WHICH IS DOUBLE THE NORMAL
NUMBER OF DAYS WITH SNOW. THE SNOWIEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS 1979
WHEN 62.4 INCHES FELL. THE LEAST SNOWY JANUARY WAS 1908 WHEN ONLY
1.6 INCHES WAS OBSERVED. THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE TOP 10 MOST
SNOWFALL FOR JANUARY.
