FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA
257 PM PDT SUN MAY 29 2016

...SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS INTERIOR SECTIONS THROUGH
THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
AN UPPER LEVEL LOW CROSSING SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL PRODUCE
ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER INTERIOR SECTIONS THROUGH
THIS EVENING...INCLUDING THE MOUNTAINS...DESERTS AND INTERIOR
VALLEYS. THE BEST CHANCE FOR STORM DEVELOPMENT WILL BE ACROSS THE
SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS OF EASTERN L.A. COUNTY...AND STORMS MAY
DRIFT WESTWARD OVER THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY. BECAUSE THE STORMS
ARE SLOW-MOVING WITH FAIRLY GOOD MOISTURE...THERE WILL BE A
CHANCE OF HEAVY RAIN WITH ANY STORMS THAT FORM...PRODUCING A RISK
OF LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING. AT THE SAME TIME...THERE WILL BE A
RISK OF DRY LIGHTNING IN STRIKES THAT OCCUR IN AREAS NOT AFFECTED
BY RAIN. THE STORMS MAY ALSO PRODUCE HAIL AND STRONG GUSTY
WINDS. THE THUNDERSTORM RISK IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH BY LATE
EVENING.

A COOL AND CLOUDY DAY IS EXPECTED MONDAY WITH GOOD ONSHORE WINDS
AND A CONTINUED DEEP MARINE LAYER. GRADUAL WARMING IS EXPECTED
TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AS A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE STRENGTHENS
OVER THE AREA. THE MARINE LAYER WILL SHRINK IN DEPTH SO THAT THE
VALLEYS SEE LESS OVERNIGHT LOW CLOUDS...BUT THE COASTAL AREAS
SHOULD CONTINUE TO SEE OVERNIGHT MARINE CLOUDS AND FOG THROUGH
LATE IN THE WEEK.
