Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
208 PM PDT Mon Oct 23 2017

...Above normal temperatures this week with periods of drying
offshore flow...

...Routine Fire Planning Forecasts for 2017 end this Friday,
October 27th. Forecasters and Spot Forecasts remain available 24/7
through the off season...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Upper ridge over the eastern Pacific and
west coast most of the week. Modest offshore flow at times brings
gusty east winds and moderate to poor humidity recovery. Weakening
front Wednesday briefly flattens the ridge and could bring light
rain across the north. Ridge moves inland over the weekend with
onshore flow returning.

.DISCUSSION...High pressure over the eastern Pacific and a couple
of thermal trough events build north along the coast to bring
periods of drying weather next week. A broad subsidence inversion
will keep the ridges relatively warm and dry overnight, especially
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Wednesday, a weak trough
crosses into Western BC and Washington. It will bring a day of
onshore flow and possibly some light rain across the northern
zones. The ridge rebuilds beginning Thursday with the second
thermal trough building west of the Cascades. The pressure
gradient across the Cascades may be somewhat stronger, but that
will depend on if the thermal trough axis is closer to the
Willamette Valley or along/just off the coast. However, seems
like it will take far more than this week to have a dramatic
impact on anything expect the fine fuels given the copious amounts
of rain over this last weekend. /JBonk
