...SURGES POSSIBLE WITH ALL NORTH FACING HARBORS...

A LONG PERIOD NORTH SWELL IS FORECAST TO SPREAD DOWN THE ISLAND
CHAIN THIS MORNING. THIS SWELL WITH A 12 TO 14 SECOND PERIOD COULD
PRODUCE MODERATE SURGES IN ALL NORTH FACING HARBORS SUCH AS
HALEIWA BOAT HARBOR, HILO AND KAHULUI HARBORS. THIS SWELL ALSO
HAS THE POTENTIAL OF PRODUCING LARGE BREAKING WAVES NEAR CHANNEL
AND HARBOR ENTRANCES. MARINERS USING THESE HARBORS SHOULD EXERCISE
CAUTION WHEN ENTERING OR LEAVING PORT AND WHEN MOORING OR
LAUNCHING VESSELS. THE SWELL IS EXPECTED TO PEAK LATE THIS
AFTERNOON OR THIS EVENING, FOLLOWED BY A GRADUAL DECLINE THROUGH
TUESDAY.
