...NEAR RECORD-BREAKING HEAT WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS TODAY...

.Santa Ana winds and strong high pressure aloft will bring near record-
breaking heat today...mostly from the coast into the western valleys.
Stronger Santa Winds will become more widespread this morning.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THIS
EVENING...
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM PDT WEDNESDAY...

* HIGH TEMPERATURES...90s near the beaches and for the far inland
  valleys...and 100 to 108 elsewhere for coastal areas into the
  western valleys.

* WINDS....Areas of northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55
  mph. Isolated gusts to 65 mph. Winds will not be quite as strong
  nor widespread for tonight into Wednesday morning with areas of
  northeast to east winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illness is likely for those involved in
  strenuous outdoor activity, or those with health conditions that
  do not have adequate access to air conditioning. If untreated,
  heat illness events could be fatal. Never leave children or pets
  inside a parked car! Travel will be hazardous for high profile
  vehicles. Watch for broken tree limbs and downed palm fronds.

* OUTLOOK...Not quite as hot for Wednesday with cooling near the
  coast on Thursday spreading slowly inland through the weekend.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
