RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT

.DISCUSSION...Variably cloudy skies are expected today with highs
in the lower to mid 90s. Minimum relative humidities will dip to
the mid 20s to mid 30s. Winds will become southeast and increase
to 10 to 20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH. Early morning thunderstorms
across far southern South Dakota will end. Additional
thunderstorms are possible later this afternoon with gusty and
erratic winds.

...Very high Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the very high category
this afternoon. Very poor weather conditions or a very low
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that dangerous burning conditions exist.
Fires will spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.

The outlook for Friday afternoon, The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category to very high category.

...High Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is a moderate to high potential for a fire
occurrence. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Friday afternoon, The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category to very high category.
