...Potential for Heavy Rain and Snow across all of Southern
Colorado Friday night and Saturday...

A strong storm system will take aim on the area on Friday and has
the potential to bring heavy rain and snow to all of southern
Colorado Friday night, with precipitation changing to all snow
across the area on Saturday.

A majority of the latest model guidance develop a strong upper
low pressure system across the Four Corners region Friday night,
and then continue to move the upper low across northern New
Mexico through the day Saturday and into the Oklahoma Panhandle
Saturday night. This track is very favorable to bring heavy rain
and snow to all of eastern mountains and southeast plains.
Significant accumulations of heavy, wet snow will be possible
across the Pikes Peak region, the Wet and Sangre de Cristo
Mountains, the Wet Mountain Valley, as well as the Raton Mesa and
the higher terrain along and west of the Southern Interstate 25
Corridor, including Walsenburg and Trinidad. Lesser snow
accumulations will also be possible across the rest of south
central and southeast Colorado. Snow would be wet and heavy and
could cause extensive tree and powerline damage.

The exact track of this system, however, remains in question, and
could lead to a lesser impact across the area, especially northern
portions of the southeast Colorado Plains. At any rate, peoples
living in or planning travel across southern Colorado this
weekend, need to stay abreast of the latest forecasts with this
potentially high impact storm system.
