...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM AKDT THIS
AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
of up to two inches.
* WHERE...Kuskokwim Coast, Toksook Bay area.
* WHEN...Until 4 PM AKDT this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow and strong winds gusting 40 to 50
mph from the northwest overnight has led to reduced visibility
of one half mile or less for several hours overnight. Latest
observations have reduced visibility further to one quarter
mile with heavy snow and sustained northwest winds of 35 to 40
mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The worst conditions are expected
to continue through this morning and into the early afternoon
before snow and winds ease a bit. Farther inland from the
coast, rain is observed in Bethel and remains out of the
threat. Farther west toward Nunivak Island, light snow showers
at times with no reductions in visibility expected during the
day today. Heavier snow is expected to return late tonight
with the strongest winds shifting toward Nunivak Island.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay
with your vehicle.
