SUBJECT: PROPOSED CHANGE TO MAJOR AND MODERATE FLOOD CATEGORIES AT
         THE ONEIDA CREEK STREAM GAUGE.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE...IN COLLABORATION WITH OFFICIALS FROM
THE CITY OF ONEIDA...MADISON COUNTY AND ONEIDA COUNTY NEW YORK...
PROPOSE A CHANGE TO THE MAJOR AND MODERATE FLOOD STAGE CATEGORIES AT
THE ONEIDA CREEK STREAM GAUGE NEAR THE CITY OF ONEIDA NY. THE MAJOR
FLOOD CATEGORY WILL BE RAISED FROM 14 FEET TO 15 FEET. THE MODERATE
FLOOD CATEGORY WILL BE RAISED FROM 12 FEET TO 13 FEET. THE EFFECTIVE
DATE OF THIS CHANGE WILL BE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2015.

THE PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE FLOOD STAGE IS A RESULT OF SEVERAL
FACTORS INCLUDING A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE NEARBY FLOOD PLAIN. A
RECENT MEETING WITH COUNTY AND LOCAL OFFICIALS CONFIRMED THAT
FLOODING IMPACTS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY ARE REALIZED AT THESE HIGHER
FLOOD STAGES THAN IN YEARS BEFORE. THE NEW FLOOD STAGES CORRESPOND
WELL WITH MODERNIZED MAPPING AND FLOOD FREQUENCY ANALYSIS AT THAT
LOCATION.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WELCOMES PUBLIC FEEDBACK. IF YOU HAVE
ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THIS CHANGE...PLEASE CONTACT:
