In 1899, strong southwest winds fanned a fire in Saint Francis, Kansas,
around 2:30 AM. The winds, combined with dry conditions, fueled the fire
which destroyed about three blocks of the town.

In 1912, a violent F4 tornado developed south of Bartley in Red
Willow County Nebraska and moved northeast to near Cambridge. Three
farm homes were destroyed and five or more barns were swept away or
reduced to kindling. Four people were injured as they hung onto
trees in an orchard.
