.DISCUSSION...
The combination of mostly clear skies and calm winds/abundant
surface moisture has allowed patchy, locally dense fog to develop
across much of northern AL early this morning. The fog is expected
to dissipate shortly after sunrise, with development of isolated-
widely scattered showers and thunderstorms possible by mid-day. A
more widespread wetting rainfall event associated with a
northward-moving warm front is expected to occur beginning in our
southwestern zones late this afternoon. This regime will shift
northeastward and out of the region shortly after sunrise on
Monday morning, with development of additional but more scattered
showers and storms possible Monday afternoon. Smoke dispersion
index values will be in the fair-generally good range today, but
should improve to good on Monday as transport winds increase to
15-20 MPH from the SW. The extended forecast period will feature
additional chances for showers and thunderstorms for much of the
work week, with some severe thunderstorms also possible from
Tuesday night-Thursday morning. It still appears as if a cold
front will sweep southeastward on Friday morning, bringing a
cooler/drier airmass into the region for next weekend.
Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy, locally dense fog
will be possible during the early morning hours each day from
today-Tuesday.
Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
