.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Issued at 213 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Surface high pressure is in the process of building southeast
through the Dakotas and into Neb. Meanwhile surface low pressure
associated with the departing storm system is located across eastern
IA. Gusty north-northwest winds continue this afternoon across
portions of north central into central Nebraska, but those will
quickly diminish this evening as the surface high builds in. Aloft,
mid-level warm air advection increases tonight. Expect an increase
in mid-level cloudiness and the possibility of a few flurries as a
result. Otherwise it will be quite cold, especially where snow cover
is present. Lows will dip into the single digits across central into
north central Nebraska.

A pleasant day is on tap Wednesday with surface high pressure
anchored across the area. Winds will be light and temperatures will
start to warm. There will be quite a range however...with highs only
near freezing across the heavy snow covered areas in portions of
north central Nebraska. Meanwhile lower 50s should be realized
across southwest into western Nebraska.

Temperatures warm further Thursday, and with low relative humidity
there is some concern for elevated fire weather for snowfree areas.
The limiting factor will be winds, with gusts staying mostly 20 mph
or less.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Issued at 213 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Ridging aloft will be in control Friday across the Plains into the
Mississippi Valley region. Meanwhile an upper trough will be moving
into the west coast. As the trough moves into the Rockies during the
weekend, southwest flow aloft will develop across the central CONUS.
A couple of different waves will eject northeastward across the area
Saturday though Monday. At this time no major storm is anticipated,
but a couple of rounds of precipitation driven by strong mid-level
FGEN appear likely. Sounding profiles support a rain snow mix
for the most part, so will have to watch temperatures carefully.
Colder temperatures could lead to several inches of heavy wet
snow, especially across northern Neb. Temperatures will turn
colder through the weekend, with highs by Monday struggling to
reach 40F across north central Neb.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 1238 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Sfc high pressure across Canada will continue to build south and
east this afternoon and tonight. This process may be accompanied
by a weak disturbance on the western flank of the sfc high
affecting wrn and ncntl Nebraska tonight. A batch of midlevel
clouds may form overnight, perhaps BKN-OVC-090-120. There are
no other flight concerns.
