Area Forecast Discussion

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Thursday night)
Issued at 320 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

High pressure over the Plains will continue to build into the
region at the surface bringing a dry continental air mass to the
forecast area. With that will be a rather fair weather conditions
with mild days and cool night.

The only concern is a short wave in the southwest flow at the
upper levels that will move across during late Wednesday afternoon
into the first part of Wednesday night. This system is expected
to produce showers and thunderstorms over central Texas. However,
with the expected dry nature of the air mass over the immediate
forecast area, any activity is expected to weaken as it reaches
the forecast area with just mid and high level cloudiness along
with maybe some virga or a sprinkle at best during that time
frame.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through next Monday)
Issued at 320 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

A gradual warming trend gets underway by Friday through early next
week as surface ridging slides off to the east turning winds
southeasterly and allowing dewpoints to climb into the 50s Friday
and into the 60s by Saturday. Daily max and mins will climb 3-5
degrees each day with highs in the lower 80s expected Saturday
through Monday while lows will only fall into the mid to upper 60s.
A tightening pressure gradient between the departing high and an
elongated low over the central plains will increase the southerly
low level flow to between 15 and 20 knots Friday into Saturday. The
development of a second low along the lee side of the Colorado
Rockies will maintain these breezy southerly winds Sunday into
Monday. Weak ridging aloft will remain in place through the weekend
yielding partly cloudy skies, but no appreciable precipitation
chances. Cloud cover will increase Monday as moisture begins pooling
ahead of the next frontal boundary that is progged to push through
the area either next Tuesday or Wednesday.

VFR through the period with light and generally north winds.

.MARINE...
Issued at 320 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Seas continue to slowly decrease over the outer waters this
afternoon with Buoy 42091 now down to 5 feet. This is in line
with guidance that shows seas of 6 feet a little south of there
and will keep exercise caution going for a couple of more hours.

High pressure will continue to build into the coastal waters from
the north through Thursday. This will bring a light to occasional
modest offshore flow.

By Friday, the high will move off to the east and this will allow
a southerly flow to return over the coastal waters. A modest
onshore flow looks to continue into the weekend.
