353 FXUS64 KMAF 131038 AFDMAF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 538 AM CDT Mon May 13 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday afternoon) Issued at 331 AM CDT Mon May 13 2024 An upper level low in the Great Plains will push a weak cold front into the area today. There is a big emphasis on the word "weak" since temperatures will not be much different than yesterday. In fact about the only way to tell a front has moved through the area is winds shifting around from the northwest and north. Highs today will reach the 80s to mid 90s. Low dewpoints, light winds, and clear skies help temps to drop into the 50s to low 60s tonight. A return of south to southwest winds Tuesday warm temperatures into the 90s. No precipitation is expected in the short term. Hennig && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 331 AM CDT Mon May 13 2024 An upper level low moves into the Plains Tuesday night and into Wednesday and will provide broad lift over the area. A dryline takes shape to the west of Midland/Odessa. Guidance continues to show showers and storms developing to the east of the dryline Wednesday afternoon. Some storms that develop may be severe with hail and damaging winds being the main threats. There is still a few days before storms are expected, so the forecast will change. Storms end Wednesday evening and the upper low ejects to the east. Storm chances diminish and a front pushes through for Thursday bringing temperatures back near average. The end of the week and into next weekend stay hot and dry with temperatures well above normal in the low to mid 90s areawide. -Stickney && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 535 AM CDT Mon May 13 2024 LIFR CIG/VIS has moved into MAF this morning. Satellite shows a thin area of moisture moving southeast that should not continue for long. Have amended the MAF TAF to include dense fog but will not take it below airfield mins as these conditions are only expected to last for about an hour. Improved conditions are expected by 12Z.
