Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
143 AM MDT Mon Apr 22 2024

.DISCUSSION...Under the influence of a northwest jet stream
aloft, expect increasing winds by this afternoon with a few
showers along the Canadian border and Divide. Overall, dry
conditions persist with seasonable temperatures.

A brief ridge on Tuesday will bring valley highs back into the
60s (70s for north-central Idaho), followed by shower chances on
Wednesday and Thursday under southwest flow aloft.

Ensemble clusters indicate a deep trough over the western U.S. by
the end of the week through at least next Monday. Roughly 60% of
scenarios suggest multiple rounds of widespread precipitation,
especially from I-90 southward, driven by 1-2 closed lows. Snow
levels are forecasted at 5500-6500 feet, potentially lowering to
4500 feet if a well-developed closed low passes south of the
region. The other 40% anticipate less widespread precipitation but
still scattered daily showers with seasonable temperatures.
