Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
359 AM MDT Fri May 3 2024

....A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11 AM until 8 PM
MDT today for the San Luis Valley...

.Discussion...

Gusty winds, warm temperatures, and low humidity will continue
across the San Luis Valley today, producing another day of
critical fire weather conditions..

More widespread showers and thunderstorms will be possible this
afternoon and evening over the southeast plains as a cold front
pushes through the area from the north, with some storms
potentially becoming strong to severe near the eastern border.

Unsettled conditions are expected for Saturday, then a stronger
low pressure system will move across the Great Basin on Sunday,
bringing some precipitation to the mountains, and warm and dry
conditions to the rest of the district. High fire danger will
likely return starting Monday.

Surface-based inversions will begin to break between 0800 and
0900 this morning, with ventilation rates improving to Excellent
for all areas by 1300 and lasting until between 1900 and 2000.
Smoke dispersion for Saturday is forecast to develop slower, with
ventilation improving to Good to Very Good for most locations by
1400.
