THE COLD AND SNOWY WEATHER THAT BEGAN AT THE END OF JANUARY
CONTINUED UNABATED THROUGH FEBRUARY. IN FACT... FROM JANUARY 24
THROUGH FEBRUARY 25 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN GRAY
NEVER WENT MORE THAN 2 DAYS WITHOUT SNOWFALL. IT WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL
MONTH OF CONSISTENTLY COLD AND SNOWY WEATHER. ALTHOUGH RECORDS ONLY
GO BACK 20 YEARS, IT RANKED AS THE COLDEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD BY A
LARGE MARGIN. IN FACT IT WAS THE COLDEST MONTH EVER RECORDED. THE
ONLY DAY IN THE MONTH THAT WAS ABOVE NORMAL WAS FEBRUARY 22 WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE SOARED TO 35 DEGREES, THE HIGHEST OF THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 11.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS
12.8 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE COLDEST FEBRUARY IN THE SHORT
20 YEAR HISTORY OF OBSERVATIONS IN GRAY AND ALSO THE COLDEST OF ANY
MONTH ON RECORD. UNTIL THIS YEAR THE COLDEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD WAS
2007 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 18.9 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS
1997 AT 34.0 DEGREES. THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE COLDEST

SINGLE DIGITS AND THE MOST NIGHTS ZERO OR COLDER. THE FOLLOWING

A TOTAL OF 2.04 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS MEASURED. THIS WAS 1.27
INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE MOST PRECIPITATION FELL ON FEBRUARY 2 WHEN
0.69 INCHES WAS MEASURED DURING A SNOWSTORM. THE WETTEST FEBRUARY ON
RECORD WAS 2010 WITH 8.93 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION. THE DRIEST WAS
2006 WITH ONLY 1.19 INCHES.

SEVERAL ROUNDS OF SNOW FELL, TOTALING 31.8 INCHES ON THE MONTH. THIS
WAS 15.3 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE MOST SNOW FELL ON FEBRUARY 2 WHEN
9.4 INCHES WAS MEASURED. THE SNOWIEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD WAS 2013
WHEN 49.3 INCHES FELL. THE LEAST SNOWY FEBRUARY WAS 1998 WITH ONLY
2.6 INCHES.
