Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northeast Montana
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
1146 AM MDT Wed Apr 24 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR LOW
HUMIDITY AND GUSTY WINDS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 120 AND 134...

.DISCUSSION...

Winds are increasing particularly near the North Dakota border
heading into this afternoon, with the latest observations and
forecast trending lower for RH into the widespread teens. This
combo brings elevated fire weather concerns through around 7pm
area-wide, with pockets of critical conditions across zones 120
and 134 warranting a red flag headline there. For Thursday
afternoon, a frontal system will bring increased chances for
showers and thunderstorms south of I-94. Any outflow boundaries
from these storms may result in a brief period of gusty winds with
a sudden wind shift. For Friday, expect a return to near-normal
temperatures and increased chances for rain showers south of the
Missouri River. However, elevated winds on Friday give moderate
confidence for some elevated fire weather concerns then.
