Fire Weather Planning Forecast For West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
315 PM CST Sat Jan 20 2018

...RED FLAG WARNING IS EFFECT SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE PERMIAN BASIN, SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO AND TRANS PECOS FOR STRONG WINDS...MINIMUM RH VALUES
NEAR 15 PERCENT AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...
After a day of strong drying and warming a wind storm is in store for
most areas on Sunday. Even though it will be cooler the air will be
dry enough for minimum RHs to fall to 10 to 20 percent and a Red Flag
Warning is in effect. The exception will be the Guadalupe Mountains
where temperatures will be cool enough to keep minimum above 15
percent. Grasses are cured but ERC values are still not down to
critical levels and as such a day with increased initial attack is
the mostly likely outcome. Winds will decrease and turn northwest by
Monday morning.
