FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
854 AM PDT WED MAY 27 2015

...TREND TOWARD WARMER AND DRIER CONDITIONS BEGINS TODAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...WEAKER ONSHORE FLOW IS CAUSING THE MARINE
LAYER TO BE SHALLOWER THIS MORNING THAN IT HAS BEEN THE PAST FEW
DAYS. THIS SHOULD ALLOW A FASTER BURNOFF TIME THIS MORNING LEADING
TO WARMER AND DRIER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON. AN UPPER LEVEL
RIDGE SHOULD LEAD TO WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH FRIDAY...WITH
A FEW CUMULUS BUILDUPS EACH AFTERNOON ON THE CASCADE CREST.

.DISCUSSION...THE MARINE LAYER IS CONSIDERABLY SHALLOWER THIS
MORNING THAN IT HAS BEEN THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS...RANGING FROM
ABOUT 2500 FT ABOVE SEA LEVEL IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON TO ONLY
1500 FEET DEEP IN LANE COUNTY. AS A RESULT...LOW CLOUDS WHICH
DEVELOPED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE DISTRICT THIS MORNING SHOULD BURN
OFF SEVERAL HOURS EARLIER THAN THEY HAVE THE PAST FEW DAYS. THIS
IS ALL DUE TO WEAKER ONSHORE PRESSURE GRADIENTS...WITH LOW
PRESSURE EAST OF THE CASCADES DEPARTING TOWARD THE ROCKIES. THE
WEAKER MARINE INFLUENCE SHOULD RESULT IN TEMPERATURES SEVERAL
DEGREES WARMER THAN TUESDAY ACROSS MUCH OF THE DISTRICT...EXCEPT
PERHAPS THE IMMEDIATE COAST. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BUILD
ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY...CONTINUING THE
WARMING TREND. AS INLAND VALLEYS PUSH INTO THE 80S...EXPECT A
THERMAL TROUGH TO DEVELOP ALONG THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY...ADDING A
BIT OF INSTABILITY TO THE LOWER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE BY THE
END OF THE WEEK. ADDITIONALLY...JUST ENOUGH INSTABILITY WILL
OCCUR EACH AFTERNOON FOR SOME CUMULUS BUILDUPS ALONG THE CASCADE
CREST...WITH A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDER ALONG THE CREST EACH
AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY. LOW PRESSURE MAY APPROACH FROM THE
SOUTHWEST SUNDAY OR MONDAY...INCREASING THE CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ESPECIALLY IN THE CASCADES. WEAGLE
