ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...MODERATE TO HIGH

SYNOPSIS...A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL NORTH OVER THE ARCTIC OCEAN
THROUGH SATURDAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE CHUKCHI AND
BEAUFORT SEAS THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY.

-ARCTIC OCEAN-

ICE COVERED.

-CHUKCHI SEA-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE LIES FROM A POINT ROUGHLY 145 NM NORTH OF BARROW
TO 75.1N 160.1W TO 75N 162W TO 77N 166.1W TO 75.3N 170.2W TO 75.6N
173.3W TO 74.9N 179.1W TO 74.6N 175E AND CONTINUES WESTWARD INTO THE
RUSSIAN ARCTIC. THE ICE EDGE IS MAINLY OPEN WATER...WITH PATCHY
AREAS OF NEW ICE.

FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA...MODERATE WESTERLY
WINDS WILL SWITCH TO THE NORTH ON THURSDAY THEN BECOME LIGHT
SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY. THE OVERALL ICE EDGE IS EXPECTED TO EXPAND
10 TO 25 NM TO THE SOUTH WITH NEW ICE DEVELOPING ALONG THE ICE EDGE.

-BEAUFORT SEA-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE LIES FROM THE SOUTHWEST COAST OF BANKS ISLAND TO
70.8N 134W TO 71N 138.6W TO 72N 141.1W TO 71.7N 144.3W TO 73.8N
149.9W TO 73.7N 155.2W TO A POINT ROUGHLY 145 NM NORTH OF BARROW.
THE ICE EDGE CONSISTS OF MAINLY OPEN WATER...WITH PATCHY AREAS OF
NEW ICE.

FORECAST THROUGH MONDAY FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA...WINDS WILL BE
MODERATE FROM THE WEST TO NORTHWEST THROUGH THURSDAY. WINDS WILL
BECOME LIGHT ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...THEN BECOME MODERATE WESTERLY
ON MONDAY. THE OVERALL ICE EDGE IS EXPECTED TO EXPAND UP TO 15 NM TO
THE SOUTH WITH NEW ICE DEVELOPING ALONG THE ICE EDGE. NEW ICE IS
EXPECTED TO DEVELOP IN THE PROTECTED BAYS ALONG THE BEAUFORT COAST
WITH FRESH WATER INPUT FROM INTERIOR RIVERS.
