DECEMBER 2013 WAS MUCH COLDER THAN NORMAL. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 7.4 DEGREES...WHICH IS 8.8 DEGREES LOWER THAN THE
NORMAL 16.2 DEGREES. THE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE REMAINED BELOW FREEZING
ON 23 DAYS AND BELOW ZERO ON 3 DAYS.  THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE
DROPPED BELOW ZERO ON 19 DAYS OF THE MONTH. BETWEEN THE 4TH AND THE
8TH OF THE MONTH...THERE WERE 4 DAYS IN WHICH THE TEMPERATURE NEVER
ROSE ABOVE ZERO. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER 2013 WAS 44
DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 1ST...THE 18TH AND THE 27TH. THE
LOWEST TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO -31 DEGREES ON THE MORNING OF THE
23RD. A NEW RECORD LOW OF -22 DEGREES WAS SET ON DECEMBER 12TH.
THAT TEMPERATURE BROKE THE OLD RECORD TEMPERATURE OF -21 SET BACK IN
1945.

DECEMBER WAS ALSO WETTER THAN NORMAL. TOTAL LIQUID PRECIPITATION
MEASURED 1.26 INCHES...WHICH IS 0.77 INCH ABOVE THE NORMAL .49 INCH.
THE TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH WAS 15.5 INCHES WHICH IS 6.2 INCHES
ABOVE THE NORMAL 9.3 INCHES. SNOW FELL ON 22 DAYS DURING DECEMBER.
THE GREATEST SNOW DEPTH REACHED 7 INCHES FROM THE 22ND TO THE 25TH
AND AGAIN ON THE 31ST.

THE PEAK WIND GUST REACHED 41 MPH FROM THE NORTHWEST ON THE 28TH AND
THE HIGHEST WINDSPEED WAS 31 MPH...WHICH ALSO OCCURRED ON THE 28TH.
THE OUTLOOK FOR JANUARY 2014 APPEARS TO BE COLDER THAN NORMAL AND
SLIGHTLY WETTER MAINLY IN THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE STATE. HIGHS
NORMALLY START OUT IN THE LOWER 20S AND RISE TO THE MID 20S...AS
NORMAL LOWS BEGIN IN THE LOWER SINGLE DIGITS AND RISE SLIGHTLY TO
THE MIDDLE SINGLE DIGITS.
