A large arctic high pressure system was centered over
Saskatchewan early this Monday morning, and extended across all of
the Northern Plains. The center of the high is forecast to move
south into the Dakotas by Monday evening, and continue south into
the central plains states on Tuesday.

Gusty northwest winds with drifting snow and patchy blowing snow
will affect eastern portions of the region, including the Red
River Valley and much of Minnesota and Iowa this morning.

Very cold air with dangerous wind chills will impact the Northern
Plains region through Tuesday morning. However, a temperature
recovery to above freezing temperatures is possible by the middle
to end of this week.
