214 FNUS54 KMAF 090244 AAA FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico...UPDATED National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 944 PM CDT Wed May 8 2024 .DISCUSSION... Near-critical fire weather conditions may develop Thursday afternoon, mainly across the higher elevations of southwest Texas where it remains very dry and winds are a bit stronger. A cold front begins to enter the area Thursday, likely stalling across the Permian Basin before clearing the area Friday. This brings cooler temperatures and better moisture to the region. In addition, rain enters the picture with showers and a few thunderstorms possible across most of the region by Saturday. Fire weather concerns may return by Sunday and into next week for the higher elevations of west Texas. Fuels remain critically dry in these areas with the threat of elevated wind speeds. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
