Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mobile AL
350 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.NEAR TERM...
(Now through Monday)
Issued at 350 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

Zonal flow aloft this afternoon
will gradually turn northwesterly as an upper-level trough digs into
the southeast US. This trough will continue pushing towards the east
on Monday before sliding into the western Atlantic by Monday evening.
At the surface, the cold front which passed through the area last
night will continue to push further into the Gulf throughout the
period as high pressure builds in from the north. This will allow
for a cooler and much drier airmass to continue advecting into the
region. No rain is expected through the remainder of the period.
Lows tonight will range from the low to mid 40s inland to the low
50s along the immediate coast. Highs on Monday will only reach the
upper 60s to low 70s under sunny skies. A Low risk of rip currents
continues through the period. /96

.SHORT/LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Sunday)
Issued at 350 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

Expect a dry forecast for the entire short/long term period.
The area generally remains under a northwesterly flow pattern
aloft through Thursday, then expect ridging aloft Friday through
Sunday. At the surface, high pressure centered over the southeast
CONUS Monday night through late Tuesday will drift east off the
Florida Atlantic coast, but continue to ridge back westward into
the Gulf coast region through Sunday. A front slides into the
Southeast Wednesday into Thursday, but due to the surface ridging
in our area hangs up well to our north (which also keeps the rain
to our north). Low level winds will become more southeasterly through
the period, with temperatures slowly rising and moisture levels
slowly increasing. Still rather cool on Monday night with lows
again mainly in the low to mid 40s across most of the area (low to
mid 50s at the coast), but min temps will be gradually moderating
trough the period, rising through the 50s and by Saturday night
being primarily in the lower 60s. Daytime highs moderate as well,
starting off in the 70s on Tuesday, but in the low to mid 80s for
the remainder of the period (maybe even a few spots hitting upper
80s by next Sunday). Beach Note: Rip current risk remains low
through at least mid- week, but increasing onshore flow late in
the week may lead to an increasing risk, and we will continue to
monitor. DS/12

.MARINE...
Issued at 350 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

A moderate to strong northerly flow will continue through tonight.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect this evening through Monday
morning for the Gulf waters as well as southern Mobile Bay and the
Mississippi Sound. Winds decrease on Monday as high pressure builds
into the area. A light to moderate southeasterly flow develops on
Tuesday, before becoming light and variable by midweek. /96
