IT WAS ANOTHER WARMER THAN NORMAL MONTH IN KEY WEST AND FOR MUCH OF
THE FLORIDA KEYS, MARKING THE 12TH STRAIGHT MONTH WITH AN ABOVE
NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT 81.6F OR 1.3F ON THE PLUS SIDE. MAY
2017 WAS THE 19TH WARMEST MAY ON RECORD IN KEY WEST. THE AVERAGE LOW
TEMPERATURE OF 77.3F IN KEY WEST IS THE 10TH WARMEST ON RECORD.

RAINFALL WISE, KEY WEST OBSERVED 1.19", OR 1.81" BELOW NORMAL,
MAKING THE 4TH STRAIGHT YEAR WHERE THE MONTH OF MAY EXPERIENCED
BELOW NORMAL RAINFALL. THE LAST ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL IN MAY WAS
BACK IN 2013 WHEN 8.84" WAS OBSERVED. THE HIGHEST DAILY RAINFALL FOR
THE MONTH WAS JUST 0.49", OCCURING ON MAY 24TH.

WITH MAY 2017 NOW IN THE BOOKS, LETS TAKE A QUICK LOOK BACK AT HOW
THE SPRING OF 2017 FINISHED. WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 79.6F,
THIS SPRING FINISHED AS A TIE FOR THE 27TH WARMEST ON RECORD. AN
AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 73.6F WAS OBSERVED, TYING AS THE 16TH
WARMEST ON RECORD. A TOTAL OF 6.00" WAS OBSERVED DURING MARCH,
APRIL, AND MAY, FINISHING 1.10" BELOW NORMAL. TEMPERATURE AND
PRECIPTATION RECORDS AT KEY WEST DATE BACK TO 1872 & 1871
RESPECTIVELY.
