...AUGUST WAS MUCH WETTER AND SLIGHTLY COOLER THAN NORMAL...

WITH A MONTHLY TOTAL OF 8.95 INCHES OF RAINFALL...AUGUST WAS THE 6TH
WETTEST ON RECORD IN OMAHA. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 73.2 DEGREES
WAS 1.4 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...WITH TEMPERATURES FOR MUCH OF THE
MONTH FALLING IN THE 70S AND 80S DURING THE DAY AND 50S AND 60S AT
NIGHT.

AUGUST STARTED WITH A WET STREAK...WITH MEASURABLE RAIN ON 4 OF THE
FIRST 9 DAYS OF THE MONTH TOTALING 2.35 INCHES OF RAIN...OR ABOUT
TWO-THIRDS OF THE MONTHLY NORMAL. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
MONTH...AT 97 DEGREES...WAS RECORDED ON THE 2ND. TEMPERATURES WERE
JUST A FEW DEGREES AWAY FROM NORMAL ON MOST DAYS THROUGH THE 17TH.
ALSO...THE WET WEATHER TO BEGIN THE MONTH WAS FOLLOWED BY A DRY
STREAK ON THE 10TH THROUGH THE 16TH.

THE SECOND HALF OF THE MONTH TILTED TOWARD COOLER AND WETTER
CONDITIONS. RAINFALL OF 3.83 INCHES ON THE 17TH TO 18TH ROUGHLY
EQUALLED THE NORMAL MONTHLY PRECIPITATION...AND THE 3.58 INCHES OF
IT THAT FELL ON THE 18TH ESTABLISHED A DAILY RECORD RAINFALL. THE
HEAVY RAIN CAUSED FLASH FLOODING ISSUES AROUND THE OMAHA METRO
AREA...MARKING ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT WEATHER-RELATED IMPACTS
TO OMAHA THIS SUMMER. ANOTHER 1.52 INCHES FELL ON THE 22ND...WITH
TWO OTHER RAINY DAYS THROUGH THE REST OF THE MONTH. TEMPERATURES
FROM THE 17TH THROUGH THE 31ST WERE MAINLY IN THE 70S TO MID 80S
DURING THE DAY...AND DOWN IN THE 50S TO LOWER 60S AT
NIGHT...REFLECTING A COOLER BUT STILL RELATIVELY HUMID PATTERN.

FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS OF JUNE THROUGH AUGUST...THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE AT OMAHA WAS 74.5 DEGREES...WHICH IS EXACTLY THE NORMAL
FOR THE PERIOD. THE TOTAL RAINFALL OF 15.96 INCHES...OVER HALF OF
WHICH FELL IN AUGUST...WAS 4.13 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE 19TH
WETTEST SUMMER ON RECORD.
