SHREVEPORT RECORDED A MUCH WETTER THAN NORMAL AUGUST WITH SLIGHTLY
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES. AUGUST OF 2016 NOW RANKS AS THE SEVENTH
WETTEST AUGUST AND THE WETTEST AUGUST SINCE 1991 THAT RECORDED 9.23
INCHES. THE ALL TIME WETTEST AUGUST OCCURRED DURING 1912 WITH 10.89
INCHES.

SHREVEPORT TALLIED SIXTEEN DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL DURING THIS
AUGUST...A NEW RECORD. THE OLD RECORD OCCURRED DURING AUGUST 1942
WITH FIFTEEN DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL. THE BOUNTIFUL RAINS
FELL DURING MUCH OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE MONTH AS A RESULT OF THE
LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISASTROUS AND
RECORD FLOODING OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. FORTUNATELY...THIS SYSTEM
WEAKENED AND DID NOT RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT FLOODING ISSUES ACROSS
NORTHERN LOUISIANA. NEVERTHELESS DURING THE EVENING OF AUGUST
25TH...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED URBAN AND STREET FLOODING IN
PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST SHREVEPORT.

AT MONTH`S END...THE BOUNTIFUL RAINS RESULTED IN VERY GREEN YARDS
AND ATYPICAL MOIST CONDITIONS FOR WHAT IS NORMALLY THE DRIEST TIME
OF YEAR.

SHREVEPORT RECORDED JUST ONE RECORD DURING THIS AUGUST WITH A DAILY
RAINFALL RECORD DURING THE 25TH. 2.17 INCHES OF RAINFALL TALLIED
DURING AUGUST 25TH BROKE THE DAILY RAINFALL RECORD OF 1.90 INCHES
RECORDED BACK DURING 1886.

FOR THE CLIMATOLOGICAL SUMMER OF 2016 (JUNE 1 THROUGH AUGUST
31)...SHREVEPORT TALLIED 16.14 INCHES OF RAINFALL FOR THE THIRTEENTH
WETTEST SUMMER ON RECORD. NORMAL SUMMERTIME RAINFALL IS 11.78
INCHES. OUR SUMMERTIME AVERAGE TEMPERATURE COMPUTED TO 84.1 DEGREES
WHILE THE NORMAL SUMMER AVERAGE IS 82.0 DEGREES.
