SYNOPSIS...

MOST AREAS SAW AT LEAST AVERAGE RAINFALL IN AUGUST WHICH HAS HELPED EASE
SOME DROUGHT IMPACTS...HOWEVER SEPTEMBER IS OFF TO A VERY WARM AND DRY
START WHICH HAS SEEN STREAM FLOW AND GROUNDWATER LEVELS DROP AGAIN.

SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...

STATE AND LOCAL ACTIONS: THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOES NOT
DECLARE DROUGHT WATCHES OR WARNINGS.

A DROUGHT WATCH CONTINUES FOR 22 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA.
THE COUNTIES INCLUDED ARE LISTED EARLIER IN THIS RELEASE. A DROUGHT
WARNING CONTINUES FOR POTTER COUNTY.

WHEN THE PENNSYLVANIA DEP ISSUES A DROUGHT WATCH A VOLUNTARY 5
PERCENT REDUCTION IN NON-ESSENTIAL WATER USE IS REQUESTED. IN
POTTER COUNTY WHERE A DROUGHT WARNING WAS ISSUED...CITIZENS ARE
ENCOURAGED TO VOLUNTARILY REDUCE THEIR WATER USAGE BETWEEN 10 AND
15 PERCENT.

ADDITIONALLY A NUMBER OF PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS IN THE REGION HAVE
ALREADY INSTITUTED VOLUNTARY AND MANDATORY WATER RESTRICTIONS IN AN
EFFORT TO PRESERVE THEIR DRINKING WATER SUPPLIES.

THE PENNSYLVANIA DEP RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING WAYS TO REDUCE WATER
USE:

...RUN WATER ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. AVOID RUNNING THE FAUCET WHILE
BRUSHING YOUR TEETH OR SHAVING OR RUNNING THE SHOWER FOR SEVERAL
MINUTES BEFORE USE.

...CHECK FOR HOUSEHOLD LEAKS. A LEAKING TOILET CAN WASTE UP TO 200
GALLONS OF WATER EACH DAY.

...RUN DISHWASHERS AND WASHING MACHINES WITH FULL LOADS.

...REPLACE OLDER APPLIANCES WITH HIGH-EFFICIENCY FRONT LOADING
MODELS THAT USE ABOUT 30 PERCENT LESS WATER AND 40 TO 50 PERCENT
LESS ENERGY.

...INSTALL LOW-FLOW PLUMBING FIXTURES AND AERATORS ON FAUCETS.
